Visiting US family dream of connecting with Gallaghers of Ardara

An American family are visiting Ireland this summer with high hopes of tracing their roots in Donegal.

Three generations of the William Gallagher clan have planned a three day visit to Ardara in August 2018. They have documents linking their ancestors to the area, and are hoping to find some family that might still live in the village.

The Gallaghers’ travel agents have planned an exciting tour covering a number of counties. But to help the family connect with relatives in Co. Donegal would be the icing on the cake.

Travel agent Justine Del Rossi of CruiseOne said the William Gallagher Family is a family of eight, including 10-year-old triplets. They have carried the name ‘William’, linking to their Donegal ancestor, down through every generation.

“They have their grandfather’s baptismal certificate and would be overjoyed to meet other ‘Gallaghers’ while in Ardara,” Justine said.

The family have provided a copy of a Baptismal Register from Dunkineely, Co Donegal by James Dickson, Methodist Minister, dated Sept 4th 1897. It states:

“William, son of James and Isabelle Gallagher, Tullycleave, Ardara, Co Donegal. Age when Baptized 3 weeks. Baptized Nov 18th 1864 by Alexander Fullarton.”

Baby William would be the grandfather of William Jr, who will visit Ireland with his wife Dorothy in August. James and Isabelle would be his great-grandparents.

The Gallaghers will stay in Ardara from 17th August, if anyone would like to help them trace their family history, please contact Travel Agent Justine on jdelrossi@cruiseone.com

“Owning our Travel Agency has blessed me many delightful experiences but none would compare to helping this family find and reconnect with family in Ireland,” said Justine.
