There are fears that another raft of post offices across Donegal are set to close.
Confirmation has been received that post offices in Churchill and Buncrana will close their doors in the coming weeks.
And it is also understood that a number of other outlets could be up for review in the coming months.
Sinn Féin Councillor, Adrian Glackin, has expressed his concern at the impending closure of Churchill Post Office saying that it will be a devastating blow to the community.
The post office has been operated by the Wilkinson family for decades.
Cllr Glackin said there is outrage in the local community at the “disgraceful decision.”
He said “Just a number of years ago, we lost our local Garda station and now this is yet a further attack on the viability of our rural community.
“Consideration needs to be given to our elderly residents who rely on this service in order to collect their pensions. Many of these people do not have access to transport and would be lost without our post office.
“This decision needs to be reversed immediately and An Post needs to identify an alternative arrangement which keeps this vital service.
“The community will not tolerate the withdrawal of more services from Churchill and the wider area.”
His concerns were echoed by local businessman Charlie McClafferty.
“This is simply not on and is another attempt to kill off the lifeblood of rural Ireland.
“People claim that we can go into Letterkenny and do our business there but that is not the solution.
“This is death by a thousand cuts for rural Ireland and we will not simply stand by and watch it happen,” he said.
