Buncrana band’s debut EP climbs the charts

Buncrana band Don’t Fear The Natives are soaring through the iTunes Charts after launching their debut EP ‘Stupid Heart’ last weekend.

The album reached No. 20 in Ireland on the day of its release and has been receiving positive reviews from top titles including Hot Press.

The Inishowen six-piece band includes Claire McDaid on vocals, Denis Kelly on guitar/vocals, Greg McDaid on guitar, Jennifer Tedstone on keyboard, Cathal McDaid on bass, and Denis Doherty on drums.

The band has been playing music on and off for a number of years. Denis Kelly and Claire McDaid started an electro-rock duo Palomino, but eventually realised that the sound they were aiming for required more members. They recruited more talented local artists and adopted the name ‘Don’t Fear the Natives’.

Stupid Heart is a clear sign they’re doing something right. Fans have been streaming and downloading it non-stop in recent days on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play, 7Digital, Amazon and Deezer.

IMRO have praised the record, saying: “Stupid Heart has been described as an anthem for broken hearts, with Claire’s soaring vocals wrapped in a maelstrom of spiralling guitars.

“The new E.P. finds ‘Don’t Fear The Natives’ exploring the vulnerabilities of relationships, the heartaches, and sometimes those small victories in between.”

The band has released the video for lead track Stupid Hearts today, which was conceived, edited and filmed in and around Buncrana, with an entire cast and crew of friends and locals.

“Most of the tracks were recorded at our home studio in Buncrana. So the whole project from beginning to end, is locally produced,” said band member Denis Kelly.
