Picture special: Dungloe GAA host Patrick Daniel Gallagher Memorial Tournament

Dungloe GAA Club had another very successful Patrick Daniel Gallagher Memorial tournament in Rosses Park on Saturday.

Teams from Dungloe, Glenties, Killybegs and Kilcar battled it out for the prizes on offer.

Despite the misting rain parents, supporters, friends and family turned out to cheer on the boys and girls representing their clubs.

The late Patrick Daniel played for Dungloe underage teams and at senior level prior to his untimely passing in 2010.

Fellow teams mates of Patrick’s came up with the idea a few years ago as a way of remembering a special friend who enjoyed playing football and taking part in many competitions with the Gallagher and McGarvey families rowing in behind the organisers.

Speaking at the presentation of prizes on behalf of the organisers and the family, Paul McGee said it was great to see the teams coming to take part in this competition as many a day himself and Patrick Daniel along with other teams mates travelled to Towney, Fintra and further afield representing Dungloe.

He thanked the teams and coaches for travelling to Dungloe  to take part.

Paul had a special mention for Paddy’s nephew Patrick McGarvey  an underage player with Dungloe but who also played in goals with the Ireland U-15 team during the year and is a member of the Finn Harps U-15 team and wished him well for the coming season .

Patrick McGarvey presented the prizes. Kilcar were victorious in the A Competition and Oisin McShane and Dara Byrne accepted the cup, with Dungloe B team winning the B competition Oran McHugh held the cup high in delight.   Player of the tournament was Dungloe’s Ryan Grannell.

Paul thanked all who helped organise the competition, the Gallagher and McGarvey Families for their support, the Mary contestants who took time out of their busy schedule to call in, the referee’s on the day, all who helped get the field and dressing rooms ready and of course a big mention for the ladies in the kitchen who kept the kettle on the boil on such a bad day and provided much needed refreshments.
