Bus Eireann announce extra Donegal services for Pope’s visit

Two extra bus services from Donegal to Dublin have been added for Pope Francis’ visit to Ireland this August.

Half a million people are expected to travel to Phoenix Park in Dublin for the Papal Mass on 26th August. Forty-five thousand tickets have also been issued Pope’s visit to Knock Shrine in Co. Mayo on the same day.

Attendees are being encouraged to use public transport as much as possible for the religious events.

Bus Eireann have added extra early morning routes on selected Expressway and Commuter routes to Dublin and additional services to Mayo.

The normal Sunday schedule will operate on Expressway services Nationwide, along with the following times from Donegal-Dublin:

Route 30 Departing Donegal at 05.30am, pick up in Donegal (0530), Ballyshannon (0550), Enniskillen (0630), Cavan (0720) & Virginia (0805).

Route 32 Departing Letterkenny at05.30am, pick up in Letterkenny (0530), Strabane (0600), Omagh (0630), Monaghan (0715), Castleblayney (0750) & Carickmacross (0805).

The above Expressway special services will all return from Busáras at 19.00 that evening. Tickets must be booked in advance from www.buseireann.ie

Bus Eireann have also confirmed that additional services will operate on Route 64 from Derry-Donegal-Knock-Galway on the morning of August 26th to facilitate attendees of the Knock Shrine event.
