Listen: Maxi Curran on the challenge facing a ‘new’ St Eunan’s

Maxi Curran says the rigours of Division 1 is the perfect learning experience for a ‘new’ St Eunan’s.

Curran is back at the helm at O’Donnell Park this year and Eunan’s are neatly placed in second, a point behind League leaders Gaoth Dobhair.

St Eunan’s overcame Naomh Conaill 3-14 to 3-8 on Sunday on a day when five were sent off as the Glenties men threatened to overturn St Eunan’s lead.

“It would have been an awful tragedy for us if we’d lost that game,” Curran reckoned.

“It’s a very new St Eunan’s team. It’s great to have fresh legs, but that brings inexperience.

“They’ll learn from that. It’s a massive step up to come in and play such a seasoned team like Glenties, who are so experienced and so far down the road. It’s good for us to have these players coming in.”

The Championship looms on the horizon with St Eunan’s hosting Gaoth Dobhair in their opening group game.

The Letterkenny side are lining out without county players Shaun Patton, Eamonn Doherty, Caolan Ward, Niall O’Donnell and Conor Morrisson, although the latter did play in Sunday’s game.

Curran said: “Championship is just around the corner and it’s about players putting their best foot forward. It’s about getting the players up to speed.’
