The full list of post offices across Donegal which will close their doors between now and January next has been revealed.

The post offices, at least 13, will shut as part of the voluntary closure scheme agreed with An Post.

The post offices to close are Bunbeg, Gortahork, Dunfanaghy, Quigley’s Point, Ballyliffin, Ballymagan, Burnfoot, Kindrum, Churchill, Culkeeny, Dunaff and Dunkineely.

Local county councillor Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig has slammed An Post and the Government for not doing more to look at ways of keeping the rural post offices viable.

“The Government continues to tell us that the economy is turning and things are getting better but they continue to close down rural Ireland. What next – our schools?

“I would ask the question “Are the Government making An Post as profitable as possible before they sell it off privately to their business friends?

“This is the death of rural Ireland by a thousand cuts and those in Government simply do not care about people who live in isolated or rural areas,” he fumed.
