Hot summer weather to return for brilliant Bank Holiday weekend

A long hot weekend is in store as the summer sun returns to the North West for the August Bank Holiday.

The latest weather forecast will be good news to festival organisers, holidaymakers and sports fans in Donegal who have plans for this weekend.

Temperatures are due to rise to the 20s for Saturday, Sunday and Monday as Ireland basks in sunny spells. The recent rain will disappear for dry days and pleasantly hot conditions.

Met Eireann have forecast highs of 18-22C on Saturday, with Sunday heating up more to bring highs of 23C. There is a chance of cloud in coastal areas, but winds will be light and fresh.

Met Eireann confirmed this week that this summer has recorded history-making temperatures in Ireland.

The summer report says that the highest June temperature recorded in Ireland since 1976 was felt on 28 June 2018 at Shannon Airport, Co Clare, when it reached 32C.

The highest temperature for any month since July 2006 when 32.3°C was recorded at Elphin, Co Roscommon.

The highest daily sunshine for June this year was 16.5 hours at Malin Head, Co Donegal on the 28th June. Malin Head also had a daily sunshine value of 16.4 hours on the 3rd July which is the highest July daily sunshine value.
