Twin Towns businesses thank loyal customers during traffic troubles

The Ballybofey & Stranorlar Chamber of Commerce have shown appreciation to customers who continue to support local stores despite the current traffic difficulties.

Roadworks have caused lengthy delays in the Twin Towns this summer and at times made the main streets a no-go-area.

Businesses were seriously affected by traffic gridlock last month. However, meetings between the chamber and Donegal County Council have led to improvements in traffic management.

Loyal customers have kept businesses afloat this summer, according to the group.

Chamber Manager Leah Fairman said, “Ballybofey & Stranorlar Chamber of Commerce would like to thank our community for continuing to shop local during a difficult period of traffic management in the Twin Towns.  Our businesses are offering fantastic products and services over the summer months and there’s lots to see and do in the towns.”

Alice Bonner of the Chamber of Commerce, said: “Our customers are the lifeblood of the towns. Without their support we all lose out. Businesses in the towns are only just recovering from the downturn and starting to create jobs and re-invest in properties and community sponsorship.  We really thank our customers for making the effort to keep their business local.”

Ms Fairman added: “The past few weeks have seen definite improvements with changes to traffic flow at McClays corner and on the Ballybofey/Stranorlar bridge.  However, we know that customers continue to face delays and, on behalf of our businesses, extend our appreciation for keeping their trade in the towns.

“The Chamber recognises the work Donegal County Council, the TII and contractors are putting in to co-ordinate efforts across the roadwork sites.  We would like to thank the Council for continuing to work with the business community and to communicate updates in relation to the roadworks schedules.

“The Chamber is pressing for further improvements in the management plans on the Donegal Road. We are very conscious that the schools traffic will have a major impact on the towns and it is vital that this is anticipated and planned for.”
