A local Fianna Fáil Councillor has welcomed the introduction of over 70 jobs and investment of €5m for a new Supermac’s complex in Donegal Town.

Michael Naughton, Chairman of the Donegal Municipal District, praised Kevin Foley, the franchise owner, for the number of jobs the project brought to Drumlonagher, outside Donegal Town.

The fast-food restaurant, which opened on Friday, has aims of boosting the local economy, with over 110 jobs being generated through the construction and the staffing of the complex.

“The investment here today shows real confidence for the people of Donegal Town and it’s surrounding area, and I am delighted as Chairman of the Donegal Municipal District to welcome this new development here today.

“This is a very encouraging and exciting time for Donegal Town and with the two announcements made last week, of the 500 jobs at Abbott Diabetes Care, and McCann Group Development looking to invest over €10m along with the creation of nearly 400 jobs.

“The communities and the business communities of this area are delighted to see investment and developments coming to the area at this time. Work has also commenced on Tommy Gallagher’s site and we look forward to the 13th August next when work is scheduled to start on The Tir Chonaill Bridge.”

“I would like to wish them all every success going forward. I would also like to compliment Michael Kelly and Glebe Builders for the delivery and high standard of the complex,” said Cllr Naughton.

The excitement is set to continue at the Donegal Supermac’s outlet in September when it hosts the launch of the Cannonball Supercar Spectacle. The free event, which is set to take place on September 7, will give families the opportunity to get up close and personal with the world’s top mark cars such as McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Masseratti, Rolls Royce and Bentley.

Supermac‘s M.D. Pat McDonagh, said that the new store openings were being driven by customer demand. “The success of our fresh range of fresh, never frozen, beef and chicken has meant that we are opening several new outlets throughout the country to meet customer demand with more planned later in the year,” he said.

The new facility, which began construction last autumn, includes a two-storey Supermac’s Restaurant, drive-thru facility, a retail convenience store, car and HGV fuelling pumps.
