“We know how good we are” – Belief oozes from sharp-shooter McLaughlin

Geraldine McLaughlin says Donegal’s ladies will fear no-one as they head into the All-Ireland semi-finals for the first time.

The Termon woman scored four points on Saturday in Omagh as Donegal overcame a vastly-improved Armagh in a quarter-final.

Donegal scored 9-21 against the Orchard in the Ulster final, but Armagh were considerably meaner this time and Donegal needed three lates scores from Eilish Ward (2) and Niamh Hegarty to advance to a meeting with Cork in two weeks’ time.

“We have great belief in this team and we know how good we are,” McLaughlin said.

“Since the Ulster final we’ve had three tough games. That’s great to bring us into the All-Ireland semi-final.”

Armagh pushed Donegal all the way – and McLaughlin feels it could be just the ticket as they head into the last four.

She said: “It was a very tough game and nerve-wrecking at the end.

“It’s good to get a game like that before the semi-final. They came close and we pulled away at the end. We’re delighted to get to the semi-final. We knew they’d come back, but it’s great to be in the first All-Ireland semi-final. It’s just amazing.”
