Donegal charity Animals In Need are appealing for new fosterers to help care for the ever increasing number of cats and dogs they rescue in the county every year.
With around 900 animals, mostly cats, kittens, dogs and pups, saved last year, they are asking for animal lovers who are interested in becoming more involved, to get in touch.
Fostering can be short or long term, whichever suits the animal and fosterer.
All food, bedding, veterinary treatment and medication, crates and runs are provided by the charity.
Fosterers just have to be able to offer their time and have plenty of TLC to spare. Dog fosterers need a secure garden.
An Animals In Need spokesperson said ‘Fostering is a vital part of rescue and provides the stepping stone to a brighter future for an unwanted or abandoned animal. It is very rewarding to see how the animals blossom in a safe environment.’
There are many ways to become involved in the organisation, including fundraising, transportation or administration.
They currently are also looking for experienced drivers who could drive the rescue van to carry out vet runs and transportation of dogs; either collecting them or taking them to their foster homes or to the hub.
The spokesperson continued ‘As a registered charity we must adhere to strict guidelines and meet certain standards and this often involves a lot of work behind the scenes that we could really use some help with.’
Fostering could involve caring for a kitten that’s fallen from a car engine, animals that have been heartlessly dumped or unwanted dogs rescued from the Pound. Animals In Need are the only rescue taking dogs out of the Letterkenny Pound on a regular basis.
