A county councillor has slammed litter louts who dumped several bags of rubbish into a popular fishing river overnight.
Cllr Liam Doherty said he was disgusted after finding the black rubbish bags discarded in the River Deele on the outskirts of Convoy.
The Sinn Fein councillor took it upon himself to collect the bags and is holding them for the litter warden from Donegal County Council to examine.
He was alerted to the dumping by an equally outraged member of the public.
Cllr Doherty said the bags were simply thrown over the bridge and into the river.
He said “This is a popular river with anglers for trout and salmon and I actually only fished it last weekend as I’m a member of the local angling club.
“I’m disgusted that someone would simply dump these bags into the river and cause so much pollution.
“I’m not sure if these people actually realise how much damage they are causing to the local environment.
“One this is for sure, I’ll be passing these bags onto the local litter warden and hopefully we can trace who dumped them.”
