Helpline to open next week in countdown to Leaving Cert results

The final countdown is on!  The long wait is nearly over, and the Leaving Cert results are nearly here.

Students will be able to check their results on www.examinations.ie from 12 noon on Wednesday the 15th of August.

The advice from the Letterkenny Youth Information Centre is to remember to take a few deep breaths first. The local YIC know it’s a stressful time for young people and their parents/guardians, which is why they set up a helpline every year.

“After you check your results you might feel a lot of things. Like happy, sad, confused, disappointed, unsure, worried, excited or maybe you’re feeling all of them at once.  Years of hard work at school have all led up to this moment, and now you have to decide what to do next. Remember however you did that your results do not define, or limit you,” says a spokesperson from Letterkenny Youth Information Centre.

“If you didn’t get the results you were hoping for it can be disappointing, but you have your whole life ahead of you and it’s really not the end of the world.  There are lots of different options for the year ahead.”

The Letterkenny Youth Information Centre have produced a booklet called ‘Options 2018’, which details information about what’s next for school leavers, and includes information for first time tenants, finances, college survival tips and more.  It’s available online and you can pick up a copy in Donegal Youth Service.

Some of the options available to students are:  Accepting an alternative CAO course if you didn’t get your first choice, Post Leaving Cert courses, apprenticeships, all-expenses-paid volunteering abroad, repeating the Leaving Cert, taking a gap year, and other further education courses.

“Sometimes the road to get where you want to go isn’t as straightforward or simple as you thought it would be, but the bends on the way can be full of adventure.  So make the most of them.”

Whatever happens join us on August 24th for this year’s Party in The Park in Letterkenny Town Park.  It’s free entry and there’s lots on for young people from 12-6pm.

Letterkenny Youth Information Centre are here for you with a dedicated worker to answer your Leaving Cert Results questions from Monday the 13th!

You can contact them all week by phone on (074) 91 29630, e-mail yicletterkenny@donegalyouthservice.ie or drop in to 16-18 Port Road Letterkenny if you want some support, to pick up a copy of the ‘Options 2018’ booklet, or to ask questions.
