Gavin Cullen knows Cockhill Celtic are ‘up against it’ in their FAI Senior Cup clash with Limerick FC on Sunday – but the former Finn Harps goalkeeper says he’s relishing the task.
Cockhill – who have won the Ulster Senior League and League Cup double six times in a row now – host Premier Division Limerick at the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Ground on Sunday (kick-off 3pm).
“No matter what teams come out of the Premier Division, they’ll be well organised and fit. We know we’re up against it, but we’re looking forward to it,” player-manager Cullen said.
Cockhill have been out of action since defeating Letterkenny Rovers in the USL play-off in June and are back in pre-season ahead of the start of the new campaign at the end of this month.
Cullen said: “It’s not ideal. We’re only back in pre-season for two weeks. We’ll be short of match fitness and that’s to be expected, but we’ll give it our best shot. It’s very early days for the group, but we’re looking forward to it.”
Cullen has added some new blood to his side over the summer with Brendan ‘Fildara’, Bart Wesolowski, Lee McColgan, Denim McLaughlin and Lee McCallion among those recruited.
Cullen said: “I felt we were a wee bit burned out and a lot of things caught up on us. I felt we needed a bit of freshness.”
