Paws-itive outcome for Sansa after ‘stark’ ordeal!

A heavily pregnant dog who was forced to eat stones to survive has given birth to a beautiful litter of pups after being rescued.

The dog, now named Sansa after the Game of Thrones character, was found wandering around Donegal Town eating stones to survive.

The collie dog was rescued by passers-by and given to local charity Animals In Need.

The dog, who was not microchipped, settled in well into its new environment.

Staff were very concerned when Sansa began to pass stones but managed to survive her ordeal.

But volunteers at the rescue shelter were left delighted when Sansa gave birth to five beautiful puppies just hours after being put in their care.

Gitte McMullan, who runs Animals in Need in Donegal, said the Sansa has really lived up to her name!

“She is such a special dog. She must have been starving to eat stones to survive. That’s how hungry she was.

“We named her Sansa after the strong female character in Game of Thrones. She is a great mother and she will really look after her pups,” she said.

Gritta said dogs and cats coming into her shelter are at an all-time high.

Last year a staggering 900 animals passed through their doors and they currently have 110 animals in their care.

She pleaded with people to have their dogs and cats neutered and spayed.

“Our numbers are getting bigger and bigger and people need to take preventative action by having their pets neutered and spayed.

“There is a train of thought that this changes the animal but this is just not the case. We have to be more responsible,” she added.
