Many memories of the Letterkenny International Folk Festival were recalled at a very special show in the St Eunan’s Cathedral Car Park on Sunday night.
The Burgaintzi Taldea group were in town for one night only on August 12th to share their traditional dancing with the crowd of Letterkenny locals and diaspora who had gathered for the Letterkenny Reunion.
‘Burgaintzi Taldea’ are from the St Palais in the heart of the Pays Basque Region of South West France and are on a week-long tour of Ireland.
The event evoked memories of the old Letterkenny International Folk Festival and there are mounting calls online now for the festival to be brought back to the town. Next year, 2019, is the 50th anniversary of the first festival.
