Gaoth Dobhair clubman Boyd is new county treasurer after drawing of lots

Gaoth Dobhair’s Alan Boyd is the new treasurer of the Donegal County Board following a draw for the position today.

After Boyd and St Mary’s Convoy clubman Brendan Kelly were tied on 33 votes each at a county committee meeting in Ballybofey on Monday night, Donegal officials sought clarification.

The office of the GAA’s Árd Stiúrthóir, Tom Ryan, advised that the procedure was to elect the new treasurer by the drawing of the name from a hat.

The name drawn would be that of the eliminated candidate. At the Donegal GAA office in Ballybofey this afternoon, the draw took place and Kelly’s name was pulled out – meaning he was eliminated and Boyd elected.

A vacancy arose following the resignation of Cieran Kelly from the post last month.

Boyd previously served on the executive as Oifigeach na Gaeilge.
