Donegal LGFA Regional Development Camps started off this week with Group 5 (Inishowen) on Wedesday 15th August in Carndonagh.

Club coaches welcomed 43 of the 2005 Girls to their first coaching session and 10 more players coming on board on Sunday when they push out their second session in their Region.

All other four regions are meeting up and getting ready to follow suit with top class coaching with their groups.

“This regional plan of coaching in 5 regions from our Development Team is a pilot programme being run by our clubs to work with our lower age groups to enhance the participation of young girls playing Ladies Gaelic football all over Donegal,” the Donegal LGFA say.

“Just think Our Senior Ladies will contest the All Ireland Senior Semi Final v Cork next Saturday 25th August and these ladies have come through from our clubs coaching structures and some via Academy programmes, with us now concentrating on our regions and coaching more girls there.

“We may in years to come have girls donning the Donegal jersey and contesting for the highest honours in our games at all level who have attended our Academy programmes.

“The buy in from our clubs and club coaches has been terrific for this pilot programme and with time and more plans being put in place by our Development team we hope to get projects into our schools to keep pushing Donegal Ladies football to a higher level and making sure every young girl who wants to participate in our games in a fun friendly environment is given a fair chance to improve their skill levels and build confidence in their own ability.”
