Raphoe ABC’s Leah Gallen has won her second Irish title of 2018.

Gallen stopped Sophia Hopkova in the third round of their 66kgs final at the Irish Senior Cadet Championships in Dublin today.

Gallen, who won a Girl 5 title earlier in the year with a win over Keisha Attwell, was explosive in her destruction of Hopkova, putting the Ballyhaunis woman to the sword in emphatic style.

The referee stopped the contest in the third stanza with Gallen having inflicted a volley of blows on the powerless Hopkova.

Gallen had given Hopkova a count in each of the three rounds.

There had been disappointment last night for Raphoe’s Cody Lafferty, who lost out to Rathkeale’s Breda Quilligan, while Carndonagh’s Andrew Cunningham was beaten by Legacy’s Steven Cairns today in a semi-final at 60kgs.

The IABA are using the National Senior Cadets as part of their selection process for October’s European Junior Male and Female Championships in Anapa, Russia
