Red Hughs too strong for Carndonagh

RED HUGHS    0-21     V    1-03   CARNDONAGH                                                         Red Hughs proved too strong for visitors Carndonagh in this opening Junior A Championshi Group game in Killygordan.  The home side led by six points at the break , only Conor O Donnell’s well taken goal keeping Carndonagh somewhat in touch . But the home team took control in the second-half  and we good value for this good start to their championship campaign.                                              Damian Browne with 0-05 , four from frees and Colm Melaugh  0-03 from play did the bulk of the first-half scoring for Red Hughs , with Pauric McMenamin , Shane and Peadar McGlinchey all chipping in with a point apiece. Conor O Donnell cracked in his goal in the 19th minute in a rare Carndonagh attack, he also converted a 45 and Michael Nelson pointed from play to leave it 0-11 to 1-02 at the break.                                                                                                                          Charlie Collins reports from Killygardan.                                                                     Ryan Kelly and James Carlin kicked two good scores from play for the home team to open the second-half  and although O Donnell converted another 45 for the visitors it was one way traffic after that. Damian Browne kept kicking frees , Melaugh, McMenamin and the McGlincheys all added to their totals.                    An impressive start for Red Hughs but the will be aware that tougher tests await in this group in the coming weeks.                                                                                      RED HUGHS ;  Ciaran Kelly , Shane McGlinchey  ( 0-02 ) , Eugene Browne , Shane Gallagher , Gary Kelly , Stephen McMenamin , Ryan Kelly ( 0-01 ),   Peadar McGlinchey ( 0 – 2/ 45’s  ) , Damian Browne (  0 – 09 8f’s  ) ,  James Carlin ( 0-01 ) ,  Oran Doherty , Gerard Melaugh , Pauric McMenamin (  0- 02 ) ,   Colm Melaugh (  0 – 04 ),  Thomas McMenamin.                                                                                                             SUBS ; Sean Sweeney for Gerard Melaugh (52mins ),  Melaugh for Oran Doherty ( 62mins ).                                                                                                                             CARNDONAGH ;  Daniel McCallion , Ryan Davenport. , Dermot McGonigle , Nathan Mullarkey , Dermot Doherty , Pauric Doherty , Darren Donaghy , Liam Shiels , James Monagle , Cathal Doherty , Conor O Donnell   ( 1 – 02 / 45’s   ) ,  Padraig McLaughlin , Michael Nelson (. 0 -01 ) , Benny Doherty , Sean Mc Creanor .                                                                                                                                                              Referee.
