Donegal’s Indian community issue appeal as €8,000 is raised to help flood victims

Donegal’s Indian community has issued an appeal to people across the county to help them raise funds for their families and friends who have been caught up in the flooding in their own country.

As floods and heavy rains continue in Kerala, hundreds of people have lost their lives and over 200,000 have been displaced.

With 13 of the 14 districts being severely affected, 23 bridges collapsed, 33 dams opened, 365 lives lost, more than 211 landslides, more than 20,000 houses destroyed, 10,000 km of roads damaged, loss to property and crops has been estimated at €1 Billion.

These estimates are based on initial reports and it will take at least weeks before a final impact and range of destruction can be analysed.

DIMA (Donegal Indian Malayalees Association) is kindly requesting everyone to donate for those who have lost everything in the floods.

The funds raised will be donated to Kerala Chief Minister Distress Relief Fund.

The group has already raised more than €8,000 of a €15,000 target.

DIMA request all friends to share this link as much as possible so as to collect the maximum fund for supporting the distressed people in Kerala.

DIMA is a vibrant community of around 250 plus people from Kerala, a southern state in India. DIMA is a non-profitable cultural organization formed to foster communal harmony among its members and also to promote cultural exchanges with other communities.

Due to this extraordinary circumstances, DIMA has decided to cancel all Onam celebrations which was scheduled for 8th September, 2018 and contributed the cost to the fund for this noble cause.
