The Donegal League season kicks off this Sunday with games in the Brian McCormick Cup – and Milford United boss Sean Sandilands is one of the many managers looking to make inroads in the new term.
Sandilands is entering into his second season at Moyle View Park and has recruited well over the summer with Kevin O’Donnell, Dan O’Donnell, Christopher Dillon and Daragh Black added to the ranks of a squad that finished in fifth place last season.
“We were off the pace last year, but we’re hoping we can, with everyone available, pull a few results together,” Sandilands – who won back-to-back Premier Division titles during his spell as Kilmacrennan Celtic manager – said.
“There are five or six teams who could give the League a rattle. Hopefully we’ll be there or thereabouts ourselves.
“The first four or five games are key. You have to be on the ball. It’s vital to get a good start, even for your own security because you need around 25 points before you’re safe. It’s a very tough League.”
Milford open with a big derby against Rathmullan Celtic and Sandilands is aiming for a run in the Cup.
He said: “We’re really focussed on it and we want to win the Area. It helps give a focus to the back end of the season.”
