A Taste of Donegal: 10 dishes you have to try

Chefs are cooking unique dishes non-stop at A Taste of Donegal Food Festival in Donegal Town. But which will you choose to taste this weekend?

Over 30,000 visitors are expected at the food and drink extravaganza from Friday-Sunday 24-26 August, which is celebrating 10 Years in 2018.

If you are attending A Taste of Donegal – the only requirement is that you bring your appetite.

Donegal Daily toured the tented village to see what delicious and unique dishes are on offer that you simply must sample:

1. Chandpur – Lamb Jalfrezi

The multi-award winning Indian restaurant in Donegal Town is serving up some of its best curries and starters.

Chandpur has won five star TripAdvisor awards five years in a row, so they’re definitely doing something right. If you want something spicy the lamb jalfrezi is a must.

2. Central Hotel – Monkfish Kebab

Chef Louis Oubihi from Central Hotel Donegal Town has created this special light bite for everyone to sample the hotel’s new Chapman’s flavours. Fresh monkfish on brown bread = Yum!

3. Seafood Box – Killybegs Seafood Shack

If you’ve always wanted to try the famous Killybegs Seafood Shack – now is your chance!

Get a real taste of Killybegs’ best here with a Seafood Box, packed with chips, scampi, cod goujons, calamari and more. Their Wee Menu has loads, contrary to the name, and this stand is a very popular place at this year’s festival.

4. House Gastropub – General TSO Chicken and Cocktails

The Donegal Town restaurant are offering their best-selling General TSO chicken dish with top-class cocktails all weekend. Get a mouth-watering espresso martini or a strawberry frozé to sip as you eat.

5. The Salmon Inn

The Salmon Inn from Mullinasole, Donegal Town are enjoying their first year at A Taste of Donegal this year.

They have definitely got the right recipe for success, by serving speciality mussels and a great bar menu.
Get chilli and coriander or white wine and garlic mussels with wine or beer – what more could you want?

6. Bellaville Farm – Goat Burgers

These burgers come from a family-run, free-range farm in Co. Donegal – it’s just Goat to be done!

7. Kangaroo

If you don’t fancy goat, why not have a taste of Down Under with these Kangaroo Skewers.

8. Outside Catering Donegal

This catering company from Mountcharles has some very tempting plates to give people a sample of their menu. The Donegal-based home catering firm had a sumptuous seafood plate on Friday and will serve fish tacos and expertly-paired wines throughout the weekend.

9. Potato Chips

These aren’t just crisps. Try them and see what we mean.

10. Dillon’s Hotel – Football Special Cheesecake

Mixing an iconic Donegal soft drink in a dessert was a genius move by this Letterkenny hotel. If you haven’t tried Dillon’s Hotel’s signature sweet there is a tower of samples that you can much on at A Taste of Donegal. The good thing is there are full cheesecakes to buy and take home!

All this food and more, along with Celebrity Chef demos and producer stories are taking place all weekend at A Taste of Donegal.
