Anger as numerous pupils in South Inishowen denied school transport

Inishowen Sinn Féin County Councillor, Jack Murray, has expressed his concern after being contacted by a number of families in South Inishowen whose children have been denied school transport to Buncrana.

Cllr Murray said he has been contacted by families from both the Burnfoot and Muff areas whose children attend secondary school in Buncrana but were refused access to the school bus as they had no Bus Eireann ticket.

“They have been told that it is now too late to obtain this ticket and that cannot avail of the school bus.

“This is a ten mile journey twice a day, five days a week. Their families simply can’t drive them every day.

“I have written to Bus Eireann, asking that this issue is addressed as a matter of priority. Children in rural areas must have access to education. It should not be impeded in any way.”
