Four incoming first year students at Deele College have been chosen to be recipients of the School Scholarship Scheme, which is currently in its second year at the Raphoe school.

There were four lucky winners of the scholarship, which gives the students free book rental and assistance with back to school costs.

Two students were selected in the academic scholarship section, with both students coming from Murlog National School in Lifford. Amy McLoone and Sennan Gleeson were both selected from over one hundred students, based on academic tests carried out by the school.

Ave McMonagle was the winner of the art scholarship, which was judged by the art teachers from Deele College, with students invited to submit one piece of art as part of the process.

The winner of this year’s sport scholarship was Caolan McHugh from Drumoghill National School and he was selected for his all-round sporting performance but in particular his ability in the world of cycling.

A member of the Four Masters Cycling Club, Caolan has impressed at underage level and the young cyclist is hoping to continue that success in the future.

Deputy Principal, Mr Danny McFadden congratulated the four students and wished them well, as they began their journey at Deele College.

“I would like to congratulate the four winners, who have shown obvious talent in their respective fields and I would like to wish them the very best as they begin life in secondary school. I have no doubt that they will make a big contribution to the school over the next six years and we hope that by recognising and rewarding their talents that they will flourish here at Deele College.”
