Outrage as children’s playgroup building vandalised

A playgroup has warned two teenagers that they will be reported to Gardai if they target their playgroup building again.

Members of the Newtowncunningham Playgroup expressed their anger after two former past pupils of the centre attacked it in recent days.

The teens damaged a fence in the group’s outdoor play area and then smashed glass bottles in the children’s play area.

The group said they were very upset to have to bring the issue public through their Facebook page.

A statement on the group’s page reads “We have waited years to get a permanent playgroup building for the village. We are very upset to have to put this up on this page.

“But unfortunately, two teenage boys (past pupils) gained access to our outdoor area and damaged the fence and also broke a glass bottle in the children’s play area.

“This could have been very dangerous for the young children that attend the playgroup.

“As we have CCTV in operation we have identified these individuals and if this occurs again we will have no choice but to involve the Gardai as this could have led to a very serious incident.”
