Listen: ‘We always knew that we’d come on strong,’ says St Michael’s Martin McElhinney

Martin McElhinney says St Michael’s always believed they’d come good when it mattered in 2018.

At one stage of the All-County League, St Michael’s appeared to be flirting with relegation, but eight wins in a row sent them into the Championship in super form.

St Michael’s continued that sequence yesterday evening at The Burn Road as they overcame Termon 3-16 to 0-9.

“We always knew that we’d come on strong,” McElhinney said.

“Championship is different. We’ve always been decent in the League and haven’t performed in Championship so we can’t get carried away.

“It’s good to get a win. It’s very important to get off to a good start. The goals gave us a gap and they didn’t look like getting back. Goals are always going to be big scores. Christy’s goal made a big difference. It gave us a good cushion.”
