Killybegs manager John Cunningham was proud of his team’s graft as they pushed county champions Kilcar all the way yesterday.

Kilcar had an early goal from Andrew McClean, but they needed a second goal from Stephen McBrearty in the second half to win as Killybegs asked some stern questions.

“We gave ourselves an opportunity when we went at them,” said Cunningham, whose team led at half-time.

“It’s great credit to the lads. Kilcar are further ahead down the road.

“We’re very pleased that we didn’t die. We showed that we do have good quality on our team. We finished stronger than them, but hats off to Kilcar.”
