Listen: Aidan McAteer hails Gaeil Fhánada’s ‘pack of wolves’

Aidan McAteer likened his Gaeil Fhánada minors to ‘a pack of wolves’ after they overcame Kilcar to win the Division 2 minor title last night in Convoy.

Goals from Darren McElwaine and Joshua McAteer – both in the second half – helped to seal a 2-12 to 0-10 win over Kilcar.

Gaeil Fhánada led by three points, 0-8 to 0-5, at half-time, and the goals proved the killer scores.

“They did all the talking themselves at half-time,” McAteer said.

“The leaders all stood up and they done the business in the second half. We kicked on and goals were massive in a game like that.

“Everyone is ecstatic for them. They’ve been there or thereabouts for a few years now.”

This team has a good taste of the winning feeling now and McAteer said the close-knit side’s bond is practically unbreakable.

He said: “They’re like a pack of wolves – when you see one, you see the others. That stands to them in a war on the pitch.”
