Inishowen soccer is in mourning following the death of Carndonagh FC stalwart Liam Monagle.

News of his death broke this morning and the club will honour his memory with a minute’s silence before their senior and reserve games tomorrow.

“In school, D&D, Summer Cup, Inishowen soccer tussles, Liam was our team leader, our Franz Beckenbauer, our glue and our true grit,” wrote local councillor and Carndonagh FC Chairperson Albert Doherty.

“Yet he was also the unassuming, quiet, composed gentleman on and off the pitch.”

Liam’s final takes is on Monday at 12 noon in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Carndonagh.
