Darragh O’Connor won the first golf competition of his young golfing career, showing that you can indeed transfer talent from the football field to the golf course.

Darragh (25) who has been a regular on the course this past few months, produced a great round of golf on Saturday to return a fantastic 61 nett, which was enough to take first place by one shot from Kevin McColgan, who took second place on a BOT from Visitor John Quigley from Castlebar Golf Club, who had to settle for third.

Gross went to Damien Doherty who makes a welcome return to form, after a bit of dip during the year.

Jonny Morrison won the best day and Michael Van Dessel took the back 9.

Full results as follows; First place: Darragh O’Connor (25) 61nett; Second: Kevin McColgan (21) 62nett BOT; Gross Damien Doherty (7) 62nett; Third: John Quigley (11) Castlebar GC 62nett. Best Day: Jonny Morrison (10) 64nett BOT; Back 9 Michael Van Dessel (14) 29nett. C.S.S. 64 Gallagher Meats Singles Match Play Final

In a very competitive and sporting final between two the seven handicappers, Jonny Bonner and Kevin Murphy served up some truly excellent golf.

After a couple of halved holes, it was Jonny who took the advantage winning the third hole to take the early lead, but this only rocked Kevin Murphy in action and he won the next three holes on the trot to go two up after six.

Jonny then managed to get back into the match by winning the eighth hole to leave him just one down at the turn.

Jonny then displayed the form he was in last weekend and showed throughout the year when he went on an unstoppable run winning the next four holes in a row to leave him three up after thirteen.

The fourteenth hole was then halved with pars but Jonny then finished the match off on the fifteenth to secure the title four and three.

Congratulation to both Jonny & Kevin on an excellent Final and especially to Jonny our new Singles Match Play Champion.
