Your Donegal guide to soaking up the best of Culture Night

Letterkenny and parts of Donegal will come alive with cultural events tonight (Friday) for the 10th annual Culture Night.

The national event invites people across Ireland to enjoy a feast of creativity at free events celebrating local cultural identity.

This year will see 39 diverse events taking place in 26 venues in Co. Donegal.

Letterkenny will be lighting up to an evening of accessible, family friendly events – all for free, so why not get out and see what you can discover?

Living History Experience – Letterkenny Market Square

Some of the town’s iconic buildings – such as the new Courthouse and the Masonic Hall – are opening their doors to the public for special tours. The Town Park will host a special night-time arts exhibition and carnival guaranteed to entertain.

Here are 10 highlights to add to your plans tonight: 

Letterkenny Town Park

Inishowen Carnival – SPIKY TRIBE (Performances from 8pm – 10pm)

DreamScape – Outdoor illuminated  art installation (From 6pm – 10pm)

Market Square, Letterkenny

Actors and performers will bring Letterkenny’s history alive through poetry, music and drama. Experience local history like you’ve never seen before. Time: 8pm – 9:30pm

An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny

Family Event: Kyle Riley and The Temper Tantrums 7pm – 8pm

Pauric Gallagher’s Culture Night Comedy Cavalcade 9pm – Late, The Eatery Bar

Donegal County Museum, Letterkenny

Exhibition  ‘A Long Farewell’ – Emigration of Donegal Women 1845-1955

Experience an ‘American Wake’, hear the stories of the Donegal Orphan Girls sent to Australia and enjoy Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Traditional Music Session with Lettterkenny Senior Grúpa Ceoil.

Letterkenny Courthouse, Letterkenny

Step inside the impressive building for 30 minute tours with court office officials from 6pm – 8pm.

Lifford Courthouse

Lifford Old Courthouse and Lifford Credit Union proudly present former Eurovision Song Contest winner Charlie McGettigan live in concert. Doors: 6pm. Performance: 6.45pm-9pm

Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair 

A feast of music and poetry with local musicians, groups and poets. Time: 8.30pm – 10:30pm

Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny

Check out the Exhibition: REMAINS (2013) by Willie Doherty, the Hands-on Art Room and music performances by the Donegal Music Education Partnership.

Pinehill Studios, Letterkenny

It’s Open Night at Pinehill Studios where instructors from the studios collaborate and invite you to come along and enjoy student Showcase Performances in Dance (6.30pm-7.15pm) and an Open Dance Workshop for all ages (7.15pm – 8pm).

The Masonic Hall, Letterkenny

Specially for Culture Night, members of the public are invited to view one of the oldest and most distinctive buildings on the Port Road, home to Pioneer Masonic Lodge 271. 7pm – 9pm
