Jamie Lynagh pulls no punches when assessing last season for Bonagee United – but can already see the shoots of improvement.
Bonagee were bottom-bar-one in the Ulster Senior League last term, with only Swilly Rovers beneath them.
The appointment of Jason Gibson as manager this summer and the subsequent arrival of new faces in the dressing room has lifted the gloom considerably.
Already, Bonagee have secured a League Cup semi-final place and this evening they begin their Four Lanterns Ulster Senior League campaign when they welcome Finn Harps Reserves to Dry Arch Park.
“We want to be as competitive as we can,” Lynagh (pictured above with Deano Larkin) says.
“We want to finish as high up the table as we can. Last year wasn’t good enough.
“The club has done everything right off the pitch and it’s time for us to repay them with success. It won’t be overnight and there’s work to do, but it’s a step in the right direction.”
Wins over Swilly Rovers and Fanad United booked a League Cup semi-final slot – and Lynagh is playing with a smile again.
He said: “Even though we have new faces, we’ve kept the core from last year and kept the Bonagee in it.
“Jason has brought a good structure to it. Training has been really positive and everyone seems to be enjoying it.”
