Saturday last saw Donegal’s pool season get officially under way with the first qualifier of the season.

33 players battled it out on the day in a round robin group format.

The top 4 from each of the 4 groups progressed to the knockout stages.

Some fantastic pool was played throughout the day, and eventually it was Matthew Mahon from Donegal town who came out on top, winning his second ever qualifier event.

He overcame his Donegal town teammate, Shane Faulkner, in the final on a scoreline of 5-4.

This was Shane’s 16th final in all competitions and the wait for his first victory continues.

The second qualifier – for places on the Donegal men’s teams – of the season takes place on October 6th in Donegal Q Club in Ballybofey.

Check out “Donegal Q Club” on Facebook for more details.
