A €17million investment has been secured for community projects in Donegal, it has been revealed.
The Department of Rural and Community Development has secured the grant for the county and Minister Ring was in Donegal on Friday to see first hand how the funding is being used.
Donegal TD Joe McHugh said there was a real commitment for ‘improving local communities’ in Donegal.
“The dedication to improving local communities is immense – €3.5million in the last six months alone,” Mr McHugh said.
“Minister Ring has also confirmed a €41,000 grant for a wheelchair accessible vehicle for Coiste Ionad Lae na Sean Daoine to bring people from Gaoth Dobhair, The Rosses and Cloich Cheann Fhaola to the Day Centre in Doire Beaga.”
The ministerial visit included an engagement at the CoLab in LYIT, a review of the new Irish Red Cross ambulances, which Minister Ring’s Department funded with a €137,000 grant, and visits to projects funded through Clár in Dunfanaghy and Glenties.
Minister Ring added: “It’s an honour for me to see the impact of such huge increases in spending on school safety, children’s recreation, community projects and schemes that make real differences to everyday lives. This Government is making the difference.”
Minister Ring further joined Minister McHugh at Glenveagh Castle to launch the Glenveagh Suite CD composed by Mánus Lunny.
“It’s also a privilege to have Minister Ring in Donegal to show first-hand the scale of investment his Department makes in our county – €17million since he was appointed in 2017.
Minister McHugh additionally revealed there will be more than €2million spent on a development on the Donegal Library.
“The dedication to improving local communities is immense. Funding through the Community Enhancement Programme for disadvantaged communities has quadrupled to more than €600,000.
“Donegal Library is to undergo a €2.1million development and more than €200,000 is being spent on library services to enhance digital offerings and support people with intellectual difficulties and dementia.”
