Minister Rural and Community Development, Mr Michael Ring TD, has made a significant funding announcement for a new wheelchair accessible vehicle for Derrybeg today.

The announcement was made as part of the Minister’s tour of Donegal visiting projects and initiatives supported by his Department.

The Minister allocated the funding for the Derrybeg community through his Department’s CLÁR Programme.

He said: “I am delighted to announce €41,480 in funding for a wheelchair accessible vehicle for Coiste Ionad Lae na Sean Daoine under Measure 4 of my Department’s CLÁR Programme. This vehicle will transport people from Gweedore, The Rosses and Cloughaneely to the Day Centre in Derrybeg on a daily basis. I have no doubt that it will bring great benefit to these communities.”

During the course of his visit, Minister Ring will travel to Letterkenny, Dunfanaghy, Glenveagh Castle, Glenties and Leghowney.

The Minister said that Donegal has been allocated more than €9.5 million to support communities throughout the county so far in 2018. Only Dublin and Cork have been allocated more from the Department.

Minister Ring also met with members of the Donegal Red Cross in Letterkenny on Thursday night. Funding of €137,000 was allocated from the Department Rural and Community Development to the organisation to replace ambulances lost in the Inishowen flooding of August 2017.

On the visit, Minister Ring said: “I was delighted that my Department was able to support the local community in this way after the terrible impact of the flooding. Having met the ambulance staff, I have no doubt of the impact that this investment has had.”
