Listen: Steven O’Reilly on Sean MacCumhaills’ best hour in ‘ten years’

Steven O’Reilly hailed Sean MacCumhaills’ best game in ten years as they overcame fancied St Michael’s to reach the Donegal SFC semi-finals.

MacCumhaills defied the odds as Martin Gallagher and Martin O’Reilly netted goals in a 2-10 to 0-13 win at O’Donnell Park.

“That’s one of the best performances by the club, possibly in the last ten years,” midfielder O’Reilly said.

“We had a game plan to curtail them to half-time. They were always going to come back and put us under pressure. The boys dug deep and thankfully we came out on top.”

Few outside their own camp gave them a chance – but deep down, MacCumhaills believed in themselves.

“We were quietly confident,” O’Reilly said. “’Poggy’ (Bernard McGeehan, manager) has us well drilled, organised and fit. When you have fitness and heart you can put it up to a lot of teams.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve been there. This year, we’re getting what we deserve and we’re showing what hard work can do.”
