Sadness as time to be called tonight on famous Donegal bar

Another landmark Donegal business is to close its doors for the last time tonight when time will be called forever in Brennan’s Bar in Bundoran.

The bar, which is officially called The Criterion Bar, has been opened since 1900.

Since then it has been a no-nonsense hostelry which refused to succumb to the pressures of showing live sport or even singing for that matter.

In recent years the bar was run by sisters Nan and Patricia Brennan.

Last year the sisters fronted the Hop House 13 television ad series – with the sisters being picked for the campaign as the bar has been at the heart of Bundoran life for decades.

Sadly, Nan passed away last year aged 81 and now Patricia has decided she would like to call time on the amazing establishment.

Anyone who has ever called into the establishment, even once, will have been enriched by the emphasis on conversation rather than the distraction of mobile phones.

Donegal is about to lose yet another piece of its heritage and history.

But tonight in Brennans, will be a chance to savour all that was right about bars across Ireland yesteryear.
