Robert Emmets GAA club prepare for centenary celebrations

Robert Emmet’s GAA Club in Castlefinn have today announced plans for their Centenary Celebration weekend to be held from the 25th-29th October.

The Centenary weekend is the culmination of a year long programme of events which has celebrated the achievements of Robert Emmet’s over the last one hundred years, and the impact that the GAA has had on the wider community in the Castlefinn area.
There is a wide and varied programme planned for the weekend of the October Bank Holiday, with something to suit all tastes, from a children’s fun morning to the Centenary Bingo to an exhibition match featuring ex players from throughout the Club’s history.
On Saturday 27th All-Ireland winner Frank McGlynn will officially open the new training pitch at Pairc Eimeid which has been planned and constructed over the last three years by a dedicated group of volunteers.
The finale will be the Centenary Banquet in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey on Sunday 28th, with music from one of the best bands in the north west, The Wailin Banshees. MC on the night will be Charlie Collins, and there will be interviews from the stage with some of the people who have worked over the years to make the Club what it is today.
Gary Doherty is Chairman of the Centenary Committee, and he hopes the  community will come out in numbers to attend the many events over the weekend. “The Centenary weekend is the culmination of a year long celebration of the history of the GAA in our Parish. It has already been a memorable year, from the Irish Night in Doneyloop Hall back in March to our very successful Sandy Harper/Shaun T Carlin Centenary Tournament. The community have supported us throughout and we hope they will do the same for the Centenary weekend.
“We are one of the first Club’s in the County to have celebrated a Centenary, and we are proud of the contribution Robert Emmet’s have made to the Parish. We hope the Centenary weekend will be a fitting tribute to the hundreds of past players, officials, members and supporters who dedicated their lives to the Club over these one hundred years.
Tickets for the Centenary banquet are now on sale priced at €30. Tables of 10 can also be booked to ensure groups can sit alongside each other, priced at €300. Please text 0876825967 or 0857564718 to order tickets or tables.
