Listen: Liam Breen and Glenfin content to play underdog role

Glenfin manager Liam Breen says he’s quite happy for his men to play the role of the underdogs in Sunday’s Intermediate Championship final against Aodh Ruadh (Sean MacCumhaill Park, 4pm).

While Aodh Ruadh – who were relegated from Division 1 in the League this year – were one of the sides tipped to be in the reckoning at the outset, few mentioned Glenfin as contenders.

The An Gaeltacht Lár men have crept their way into the final, but here they stand.

“We’d have been written off many weekends and it was a struggle for us,” Breen says.

“They were all tight games. We were in a very tight group. It suits us better being the underdogs.

“It’s great to be in the final. It’s a long time since we were in a final.”

Aodh Ruadh have been in superb scoring form this year in the Championship and have shown a real penchant for goals.

Breen says: “There is a reason we’re underdogs. They’re a Division 1 team. We played them last year in Division 2 and they hammered us off the pitch. They’re capable of doing that if they get a run up on you. They have awful power and they will go for the jugular.”
