Minister Joe McHugh has announced that a commitment has been secured to resolve the school bus transport issue in North Donegal.

The Donegal Minister expressed his delighted today that a solution has been found to facilitate school bus places for all eligible students travelling from Kilmacrennan-Termon to Milford.

Mr McHugh said: “Following a series of contacts across Government in recent days and a meeting with the Kilmacrennan School Bus Committee in Dublin today I am delighted to confirm a solution for eligible children on that route.

“The voice of the parents and those of schoolchildren has been heard. And we have acted.

“I spoke to Minister John Halligan after he today met officials following a review of transport options and he confirmed that he was finalising a solution to the shortage of school bus transport for children travelling to Milford.”

Mr McHugh, Government Chief Whip, said: “I want to thank Minister Halligan for his focus on this issue and for attempting to secure a resolution.

“I also want to thank Mairead Giles, Sharon Crossan and Tres Connaghan and the Kilmacrennan School Bus Committee for meeting me today and allowing me to confirm the news to them.

“I look forward to hearing from Minister Halligan in the coming days on the plans for seats on buses to be provided for the schoolchildren in the Kilmacrennan-Termon area.”
