Gardening enthusiasts invited to get involved in Autumn event

Donegal Community Garden Network is hosting an Autumn Gathering with Irish Seedsavers this coming Saturday 20th October

The event takes place at Garradh Cholmcille – Pobail le Chéile Community Garden (next to the fire station) in Falcarragh.

This event is open to everyone in the county with an interest in seed saving and for new and existing gardeners to meet up with other community gardeners in Donegal.

Seeds Of Change by Changemakers Donegal – Making this event possible

This year the network was delighted to receive a Changemakers ‘seeds of change’ grant to have Seedsavers come to Donegal and to purchase heirloom seeds from the Irish Seed Savers Association which were distributed at our last Spring gathering in March at the fabulous Twin Towns Community Garden.

In addition to the sharing of saved seeds, the workshop will cover the importance of preserving heritage heirloom seeds for the future of Ireland’s food and flora sovereignty.

This is the Donegal Community Garden Networks next step in creating a Living Seed Bank across Co. Donegal.

Living Seed Bank in Co Donegal

A Living Seed Bank is where healthy varieties of fruit, vegetable, tree and herb seeds are grown and when it comes time to harvest these, a portion is saved and shared to be grown again the following season. This cyclical growing process then creates strong and resilient plants, inherently capable of thriving in our county’s weather and growing conditions.

Admission to the Seed Saving event is €10, or by donation so please give what you can, if you can!
A light lunch is included and refreshments will be served.

If you’d like to know more, or put your name down please get in touch on donegalcgn@gmail.com or via the Facebook page @DonegalCGN
