Kilmacrennan’s Richard Kerr ended his debut season in the Supersport class with a double podium at the International Sunflower trophy races held at Bishopscourt at the weekend.
It ended a fantastic debut year for the Kerr team in front of a large home crowd at the County Down venue.
Kerr qualified in third position despite it being his first time at the circuit on the Supersport machine.
Current Irish Supersport champion Jason Lynn was quickest on the day, closely followed by Robert Kennedy and Kerr was less than half a second behind the front two.
Kerr got the Holeshot in race one and led the way closely followed by his two rivals, but on lap five the race was red flagged and a restart was required.
Upon the restart, Robert Kennedy this time got away first with the young Donegal man right behind but Kennedy showed all his experience as he held on for the win, closely followed by Kerr in second place.
The scene was set for another battle and race two produced a brilliant battle between Kennedy, Kerr and Lynn.

Kennedy got away first but Kerr made his move on lap three and took the lead with Kennedy and Lynn close behind, it would remain like this for several laps – less than half a second split the three riders.
Kennedy got past Kerr on lap six and Lynn made his move shortly after, the three riders battling hard for the next four laps, coming in wheel to wheel and at the final flag. In the end, Kennedy took the win from Lynn with Kerr in third.
0.3 seconds covered the three riders at the flag. A tremendous battle witnessed by the large crowd to end the season.
Richard Kerr would like to thank all his sponsors for their invaluable support in 2018 and a special thanks to his dad, Campbell motorsport and all his family and friends for their support this season.
The Donegal man will now have a well-earned break for a few weeks before training resumes for the 2019 season and the team will announce be their plans for next season in the near future.
