Delight as Inishowen school bus debacle is sorted

The south Inishowen school bus debacle appears to have been resolved.

It follows confirmation from Bus Éireann that the Minister for School Transport John Halligan and his department have sanctioned an additional medium size school bus to cater for all pupils in the area, eligible for school transport to secondary schools in Buncrana.

Donegal Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has welcomed the successful outcome to the issue.

Senator Mac Lochlainn said “I am delighted at this news. A number of weeks ago, myself and Cllr Jack Murray called a public meeting in Muff and then a second public meeting in Tooban to assist the parents of pupils in Muff, Burnfoot, Bridgend and Tooban who had no seats on the school buses to the secondary schools in Buncrana.

“We worked with other public representatives to fight for these families and for fairness. I brought this issue firstly to the attention of Minister John Halligan and then to Minister Joe McHugh and today’s news is very welcome.

“Parents are now asked to make contact with Bus Éireann and to register online and make the necessary payments for their children/ pupils. Bus Éireann have confirmed that they have put this new bus contract out for tender and it will be operational soon”.
