A South Donegal Woman has been nominated for the national award for Irelands Carer of the year.

Susanna Brennan from Lisahully, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, was nominated by her family and was later selected as a nominee for the awards.

Susanna has cared for her husband Andrew for 19 years, who was diagnosed with a chronic illness COPD. Four years ago Andrews health deteriorated even further and was later diagnosed with cancer in December 2017 and later passed on September 6, 2018.

A member of the family said: “We are delighted that mum has been selected for the carer of the year and is being recognised for all the dedicated year’s she spent caring for our father.”

The regional awards will take place in Sligo Park Hotel on November 2 and the National awards will later take place on November 23 in Dublin.
