A structural assessment on Letterkenny Educate Together NS is due to be completed today (Tuesday) during the pupils’ mid-term break.
The national school at Kiltoy is one of 42 schools in Ireland at the centre of concerns over structural deficiencies.
The school is undergoing initial assessments to determine if repairs are needed on the building.
The Department of Education said all assessments are due to be concluded by this evening.
The outcome of the assessments will be communicated to the school authorities in the first instance.
The department said that the initial feedback appears to indicate that this will be positive in many cases but the final analysis has yet to be completed.
The affected schools were all constructed by construction firm Western Building Systems (WBS), which welcomed the progress on the assessments.
Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh T.D said: “Very good work has been done by the team over the weekend and our target is to have all the initial assessments concluded by tomorrow evening.
“A great team effort is being put in by everyone both within the Department and with the engineering teams carrying out the assessments.
“Good progress has also been made in putting in place interim accommodation solutions for Tyrrelstown ETNS, St Luke’s National School and Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada in Lucan. My Department’s team is liaising closely with the relevant School Principals in relation to the practical arrangements.”
Minister McHugh told the Irish Times that he is not ruling out legal action against those responsible for the structural concerns.
He said: “Whatever needs to be done in terms of making those schools safe that is my first priority.
“Yes, there is always the question of accountability when it comes to cost and there will be, if necessary, if it means litigation that is obviously a road we are examining as well.”
