Halloween chiller as temperatures drop in Donegal

Many ‘Trick or Treaters’ had to add extra layers to their costumes tonight as cold conditions prevailed for Halloween.

The cold snap is set to worsen later as a freezing night has been forecast for October 31st.

Met Eireann has warned that temperatures will plummet to lows of -2C tonight and into Thursday morning.

There is also a risk of icy patches and a sharp frost.

Donegal County Council had gritters out in force this evening on all major routes. Motorists are advised to assume that no road is ice free.

Forecasters have predicted another cool day for the 1st of November: “Thursday will be dry in most areas at first. Mist and fog will clear during the morning and good sunny spells will develop. There’ll be some scattered showers or perhaps more prolonged rain later.

“Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees with light west to northwest breezes.”

Temperatures are expected to fall again by Thursday night, ranging from +2 to -2 degrees Celsius.
