Man who obstructed security guard at The Cube is bound to peace

A man who obstructed a security guard during a protest at a business premises in Letterkenny has been bound to the peace.

John Gavigan, from Portnoo, appeared at Letterkenny District Court today.

54-year-old Mr Gavigan was outside The Cube at Thorn Road, Magherennan at 9.30pm on November 26th, 2016.

Garda Inspector Michael Harrison told the court there was an ongoing civil issue at the building at the time.

Gavigan admitted holding his arms aloft and preventing a vehicle from Orbit Security from going down the road.

It was also alleged that he told the driver to turn off the engine and come out of the car.

Garda Enda Brady told the court the incident lasted about 15 seconds.

The accused said he would like to apologise over the matter saying it should not have happened.

“It was a spur of the moment thing and I should have known better at my age,” he said.

He told the court that he was working and did a bit of farming and some stonework.

Judge Paul Kelly bound the accused to the peace for 12 months.
