Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland to host educational workshop in Donegal

Dyspraxia Ireland’s Smart Moves Workshop is coming to Donegal next month to share advice and support to parents, educators and childcare workers who want to learn more about managing the condition.

Dyspraxia/DCD is a disorder affecting motor coordination in children and adults. The common disorder varies in every person and can affect everyday life skills in education, work and employment.

December 1st, 2018 will see a Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland Smart Moves Workshop being held in the Radisson Blu, Letterkenny.

Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland is a charity with support groups around Ireland including Donegal.

The organisation is very excited to announce that Sharon Drew from the University of Wales will be coming to Letterkenny in December where they hope to educate 50 teachers, SNA’s and parents in Smart Moves.

Smart Moves: Supporting Gross Motor Skills and Fine Motor Skills For Children With Dyspraxia/DCD

Are you a practitioner, parent, teacher, SNA, working with children with Dyspraxia/ Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD)?  Would you like to gain some ideas and strategies to support the children you work with? If so, then why not attend this fun, practical and informative 1 day workshop led by Sharon Drew.

On: Saturday December 1st  
At: Radisson Blu Hotel, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
Time: 9.00 AM – 3.00 PM
Cost: €80.00 (early bird €70)
Inclusive of tea and coffee
Lunch included.

Sharon Drew is an international trainer and a well-known author of many practical resources for schools and therapists in the UK.  These include the Smart Moves Motor Programme, Movers and Creators, Take Ten for Fine Motor Skills, Fidget Busters and Cant Play Won’t Play.

During the workshop you can:

  • Learn more about Dyspraxia/DCD
  • Participate in a selection of gross motor games and activities to use in PE games
  • Participate in activities using low cost/no cost resources to help fine motor skills
  • Explore practical solutions to common gross and fine motor difficulties
  • Meet others and share your experiences and ideas

Smart Moves resource packs will be available on the day to purchase

This will be a practical, hands-on day…so parents and children are advised to come in comfortable clothing

Monthly Meeting

The Donegal Dyspraxia Support Group are hosting their next meeting on Wednesday 14th November 2018.

The event in Colgan Hall Carndonagh will focus on an assessment and diagnosis of the disorder. Disability Officer Siobhan Taylor is the guest speaker on the night and will discuss pathways to an assessment in Donegal.

The event will suit parents, teachers, SNAs, Occupational Therapists, educators, etc.

The next local support group will meet on Wednesday 14th of November in the Colgan Hall Carndonagh from 8pm – 9.30pm.

Tea and coffee is provided, with a €5 donation appreciated.
